Hyperscience, Pub Crawl, Ball and Ed events

Graduate Networking Dinner is done. Big thanks to VP Ed Tom for all the effort he put into organising such a great night, and thanks to all the companies who were on tables, particularly the event sponsor Chevron- we'll have a wrap-up post on that soon with some photos!

What's coming up next you ask? Well April is going to be one busy month for the UEC. But we're not there yet. This Friday, 30th of March is Hyperscience. It's going to be huge. And it just sold out. Hopefully you got your ticket in time, but if not keep an eye out on the event page for people who change their minds at the last minute (click here). Big shout-outs to Science Union- particularly Kaila, who seems to have been equalling Hendo in his pre-GND stress levels!

And on to April. April 4th is PROSH. The UEC theme for PROSH 2012 is Glam Metal which is going to be awesome. Think Steel Panther, think Motley Crue, think Kiss, think of all the rest. Get involved. You can check out the Facebook event here for more info.

The day (April 5th) after it's our first Pub Crawl for 2012. Get excited. Tickets went on sale today and we sold out in 20 minutes. Apparently this is a little slower than last year, but we've been assured by today's tickets salesman, Hag, that the slow-down was purely for show and to keep those at the back of the line on their toes. For those who got tickets- we'll see you decked out in yellow ready to party rock as hard as ever. The event is here. Bonus points for pole dancing on the bus.

Then it's Good Friday. You can have a break on Good Friday- but only if you've done PROSH and Pub Crawl... you'll have earned it. And you need to rest up for Saturday. Saturday was going to be Grudge Match, but unfortunately WASM lack committment and couldn't field a team. Personally I think they're just scared. In any case, we've already had a lot of the supplies sorted for the day, so we'll be organising an event to go in its place- we're scouting out other clubs to play against at the moment. You can check out progress on the event here.

Next up a quick reminder to keep coming down to the weekly sausage sizzle outside the Clough centre, Fridays at 1pm. We're willing to load you up with snags and cool drink for $1 each. That's a solid meal for $6 (seriously though- you better be smashing at least 5 sausage sizzles if you want to grow up big and strong like our committee), and some good banter amongst your engineering buddies to go with it!

And to tie off April we'll have the "classiest" UEC event of the year. UEC ball. This year the theme is Under the Sea. It's at the Convention Centre. I am excited, you should be too. More details on that to follow but remember- Ball is coming.

Finally for this post I guess we should talk a little about some upcoming Education events. Our EE rep Nic has organised a sundowner with ABB. You can get all the details here. We've also got Aurecon visiting on Wednesday afternoon to run a resume technique workshop - check out the details (click here) and come along!

CLOUGH Engineering Student Centre Grand Opening

On Thursday the 8th of March, the long awaited new student centre for engineers at UWA was opened. It was an exciting afternoon filled with speeches, amongst them Harold Clough as well as our current president, Lachlan Astfalck. The centre was opened & everyone helped themselves to a free barbecue courtesy of the faculty and run by our hardworking committee! Music was played in the centre & everyone came along to check out the new centre.

Since then, the centre has only become a more & more popular place for students to come along and socialize or get some work done. The centre will certainly be a huge asset to all our current & future engineering students to come.

A special thanks to CLOUGH for making this student centre a reality.

Hyperscience

Hyperscience is coming!!

A MEETING OF THE MINDS, Hyperscience is a huge party where 500 Engineering & Science students will come together & party rock like never before!!! Drinks are $3, tickets are $15, 30th of March, don't forget your ID!!!! WOOOOOO!!! HYPERSCIENCE!!!!

Be sure to get down to ticket sales, outside the CLOUGH centre, everyday from 1-2pm, to ensure you don't miss out! We will sell out!

See the attached poster for more information!

Camp and Semester 1 Events

Engineering Camp. Wow.

After a crazy weekend at Forest Edge - filled with amazing costumes, fun games and many new friends - we're all back on campus (or on campus for the first time) and in lectures again. It's fairly safe to say everyone had a fantastic time and there'll be many stories coming out in the next few days about all the shenanigans. Freshers- keep in touch with your leaders and your new fresher buddies!!

Our first event of the semester is the Fresher welcome this Friday. You can check out the Facebook event here for more details, but make sure you come down and say hello to the crew in yellow and vote for this years Fresher Representatives. If you're a really keen Fresher you even have the chance to be on committee! Make sure you wear yellow to get free food and (frothy) drinks (and hang around after before you head to Mexicana! [or Law Courtyard show if you're not as cool]).

Check back soon for more info on our upcoming events including S.W.O.S.S. (Second Week Of Semester Show- 18+, more free frothy beverages and food), Graduate Networking Dinner and more!

Also- get involved with Hyper Science, a huge party in collaboration with the Science Union! It's on the 30th of March, it's in the Guild Courtyard, and it's going to be a bundle of fun. Check it out here: http://www.facebook.com/events/349413625089701/. Ticket sales are on this week (until tickets sell out- which will be soon) from 1-2pm outside the Clough Engineering Centre (at the front of Civil & Mech Eng building).

O-Week

O-Week is finally upon us!

And Wednesday of O-Week is the ECM Major day, so UEC will be out in force manning the BBQs to give the freshers their first taste of wonderful budget sausage sizzle goodness! Make sure you come on down (Especially if you're fresh) and say hello (After O-Quest).

Friday is of course O-Day! We'll be breaking out the pools and slides and all of the fun things. You'd be silly not to visit the sea of yellow and pick up a sexy new 2012 UEC shirt- we can't reveal the design yet, but it's awesome. It's collectable. Get involved.

And what better way to finish O-Day than head off on UEC camp for the weekend... I'll say no more, but expect some photos and a wrap of the week soon!

Enrolment Week Success

So after four long days of lounging around in the paddle pool on Oak Lawn we're pleased to announce that Engineering Camp has well and truly sold out! We're still collecting the money from freshers who only paid deposits (get on that freshers!), but we have a long waiting list, so anyone that doesn't pay up will be quickly replaced!

Also, in a somewhat unprecedented move, this year we've managed to get 70 men and 50 women coming on camp. It's awesome to see more and more women moving into engineering!!!

Things to look forward to in the coming weeks:
  • O-Day: We'll have the pool out again, potentially a slip 'n' slide and general shenanigans!
  • 2012 t-shirts: The design is done, t-shirts are now in the hands of our supplier, get keen!
  • Camp: Did we mention camp enough? No. Camp, get keen!!!
  • Dreamfit: UEC has set up an awesome weekly volunteering opportunity with local company Dreamfit - you could be spending your Saturday's helping to build tools to assist people with disabilities in experiencing things like riding motorcycles, sailing and hovercrafting!! Contact our president Lachy (president@uec.org.au) to get involved.
  • Engineering Camp Ticket Sales

Hey freshers! I'm pleased to announce that ticket sales have so far been a raging success- the committee has been giving the pool a workout and perfecting our Vortex throwing skills whilst going through well over half of our allocated ticket amounts!

So what does this mean for you?
If you're reading this and you don't yet have a camp ticket, make sure you get down to the Oak Lawn tomorrow between 9am and 5pm and get one! You can pay the full $100, or just pay a $20 deposit, and pay the rest a bit later!

    Get involved!!

    Enrolment Week

It's already enrolment week for 2012 and the UEC is getting active on Oak Lawn, swimming in our pool and goofing around promoting Engineering Camp! Make sure you come down and say hi, especially if you're a fresher, but even if you're a friendly upper year (wear your UEC shirt if you have one!). We promise not to bite, although we advise steering well clear of the Arts and Law tables as they tend to get a little crazy!

We had a few interested Freshers who could find the website, but couldn't find UEC on Facebook, so here is a comprehensive list of all the things you could do on Facebook relating to us:
  • Join our UEC group
  • Look at photos from old events (and like the page to see photos from events you'll be a part of this year!)
  • Camp Event: Click "Attending" after you get your Fresher Camp ticket and talk to fellow camp-goers!
  • Friend our THEBSEs... You'll find out more about them as the year goes on

  • So get involved and hope to see you on the Oak Lawn!

Engineering Fresher Camp / Pre-enrolment Stall

    EWB + UEC Balloons

Engineering Fresher Camp is on again from the 24th to the 26th of February! Clearly the best way to kick off your university experience, especially if you're intending to get involved with engineering (we know that's a little harder to grasp with these newfangled degrees!). So sign up during enrolment week (Find us on the Oak Lawn!) for the easiest way to make new friends whilst having the weekend of your life! (See the attached poster for more information!)

Also- Success at our stall outside the pre-enrolment sessions. We met a whole bunch of new engineering science enrolees and everyone was excited about UEC- even Engineers' Without Borders, seen here playing with our special limited edition UEC balloons!
